Setting out with the innocent intention of finding new window coverings for their mammoth-sized living room windows, the owners of this vacation home in Avon, Colorado enlisted the help of Tracie Shumacher of local Studio80 to work her magic. The end-result was a revamped living room/dining room combo, kitchen and master bathroom with a little bit more than stylish new window treatments.
Taking trips to Denver vintage stores in order to keep costs low, the orange chairs in the living room were purchased cheap and reupholstered for a sleek, polished look, along with the lamp in the corner. Other pieces, including the mountain-esque antler table, were taken from the couple’s own collection, leaving only the sofa to be purchased at full price. The chandelier, a gorgeous addition created from an 1800’s wagon wheel, was made by Shumacher’s metal smith in Red Cliff.
The kitchen remodel, on the other hand, took a bit more sweat and heavy lifting. Shumacher brightened up the space with blue-toned concrete countertops and cabinetry stained with an interesting yet subtle mixture of green and gray. Most importantly, the “corral” feel of the previous kitchen was removed by creating a more open layout.
The master bathroom, with similar problems as the kitchen, was also opened up substantially. In addition, new Kohler fixtures were installed, along with inexpensive touches (mirrors and light fixtures) from Restoration Hardware. And a new tub was added from BainUltra to give the space a spa feel worth basking in.
Although a complete remodel may not have been in the cards for this couple, I’m sure they aren’t regretting the choice now.
